Meet the team

Phoca Tours came about where local meets newcomer, where governmental experience meets entrepreneurship, where previous jobs and companies differ so much and where 5 languages collide. Yet, we have a major thing in common; the love for water and its inhabitants, and the urge to share that with you. And the craving for good sea food of course.

This love, combined with our never ending enthusiasm, gave rise to “Phoca Tours” in October 2019 and tours have commenced in June 2020.

Allow us to introduce ourselves:

Arnold Vautour

Hi! My name is Arnold and I am a local Acadian, born and raised in what now is “Kouchibouguac National Park”. My family moved to the village of Saint-Louis-de-Kent in 1969.

My dream has always been to own and operate a boating tour company when I retired. I am a qualified chef and worked as a senior park warden for Kouchibouguac Park for over 30 years. My passions are cooking and being outdoors, and this only drove me more to make my dream finally come true.

Having met Kores and Liane and noticing similar interests, the final step to start Phoca Tours was a natural one. I am looking forward to welcoming you on board and giving you a taste of what my Acadian roots and waters have to offer.

Kores Wouters

Hello! I am Kores. I grew up in Amsterdam, Holland. As a boy I learned sailing on an old, 25-ton fishing boat as well as smaller sailing boats.

I have always loved being on, in or near the water. So a career in the Royal Netherlands Navy was the logical thing to do. Starting off as a watch officer, I then specialized in operations, safety and communications . After 15 years in the Navy, I became a freelance IT project leader for governmental organisations, mostly for inland and seagoing vessels.

In 2014, Liane and I immigrated into the Maritimes and started our own accommodation business in Saint-Louis-de-Kent. Needless to say, that our new grounds had to be near water, so we were very happy to land at the coast, at the border of the Kouchibouguacis river. A beautiful and interesting environment that I look forward to sharing with you.

Liane Greter

Ahoy! I am Liane. Being Dutch in heart and soul, I moved around many different places growing up. I always had a love for water and water sports, was a driven sailing instructor and love good sea food!

No one was surprised to see me joining the Royal Navy. The 23 years of serving as an officer in the Royal Dutch Navy made me a multi mission veteran, both at sea and on sand. Maritime business administration, information management and sales were my specializations.

Besides considering my move with Kores to Canada and the accommodation business enterprise very successful, the urge to “do something with the water” is always there. I am excited to show you my new maritime surroundings and its inhabitants.

My name is Camilla and I’m from St-Ignace, a small village 10km upriver from St-Louis de Kent, the starting point for Phoca Tours’ guided tours of the Kouchibouguacis River.

I’m Acadian and proud of it! I worked at Kouchibouguac National Park for 26 years in client services. During those years, I got to know the Park and the region better. Now that I’m retired and a guide for Phoca Tours, it’s a real pleasure for me to have the opportunity to share this knowledge with you, the passengers aboard the Phocus.

In my spare time, I enjoy hiking and kayaking - and in winter - curling and snowshoeing. I look forward to accompanying you on your maritime wildlife tour with Phoca Tours.

Gisèle Fontaine

Let me take a few moments to give you some insight on your guide, me. I have lived and worked in this area for over 35 years prior to childhood visits with family, I am more than happy to share my knowledge and love of the area. Now retired, I can devote more time to nature either kayaking, hiking and snowshoeing. Looking forward to spending time with you on the water visiting and sharing my backyard gem, the Kouchibouguac National Park. See you soon, Gisèle

A bientôt, Gisèle
